You earned your time, so this is not your goal failing. Once in a while iOS sends Screen Time updates in a delayed batch, so your apps can stay locked for a short while after you hit your goal. Opening Tonic, or tapping the goal met notification, gets them unlocked right away.

What is happening

You did your part. Tonic counts your time the moment you reach your goal, but it relies on iOS to report your Screen Time activity, and iOS occasionally delivers those updates in a delayed batch rather than the instant you finish. When that happens, your apps can stay locked for a little while, and the goal met notification can arrive a bit late too. Your time is earned either way. The lock just has not caught up yet.

Unlock them right away

  1. Tap the goal met notification. When the goal met message arrives, tap it. That opens Tonic, which re-checks your progress, and your apps unlock.
  2. Or just open Tonic.Opening the app prompts a fresh check. As soon as Tonic sees your goal is met, your apps are yours.
  3. Open the app you earned.Head back to the app you were waiting on. It should open normally now.

Why it is not every day

This is intermittent. Most days your apps unlock the moment you finish, and you never see a delay. When it does happen, it is iOS holding its Screen Time data to deliver in a batch. There is no setting on your end that causes it, and nothing is broken with your ritual.

An honest limit

We cannot make iOS report Screen Time activity faster than it chooses to, so on rare days a short delay can still happen before the lock lifts. Opening Tonic is the reliable nudge that unlocks right away. We keep tuning how Tonic responds to these delayed updates so they get smaller over time.

If opening Tonic does not unlock them

If your apps stay locked even after you open Tonic, the cause is usually something other than this delay. A couple of things to check:
